An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Kent Youth Justice West!

We have a full-time Youth Justice Practitioner position available on temporary full-time contract for 12-months, with the possibility of an extension / permanency, based at Invicta House, Maidstone (ME14 1XX).

This is an area-based role covering the districts of Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Swanley, Tunbridge Wells, and Tonbridge & Malling; working with young people aged 10 18 years who have come into contact with the criminal justice system.

Travel across the districts is essential, therefore this role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.

As a member of a multi-agency service, you will work in partnership to:

  • Undertake assessments.
  • Complete reports for Court and panels.
  • Work directly with young people and their families with a diverse range of needs to complete interventions as part of their statutory programme.

  • The purpose of this work is to reduce the risk of reoffending in accordance with the agreed intervention plans and in the context of managing their risk of harm to others and vulnerability issues.


    This role also includes regular attendance at Youth Justice team meetings and multi-agency meetings for the purpose of prevention and risk management. You will also be expected to take part in the service duty rota and attending Youth, Magistrates, and Crown Courts regularly.

    This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

    This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
