Would you like to support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients in our Trust by providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the well established Neuropsychology Service for those with paid experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or alongside a Practitioner Psychologist

Primarily based in York, and covering both York and Scarborough localities. 

This is a full time band 5 post and includes a range of clinical and non-clinical roles. 

Main duties of the job

Assist in clinical related administration, conduct of audits, data quality work, teaching and project work

This post involves working independently according to a work plan agreed with line manager and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures

Undertake protocol based assessments of clients applying psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.

Prepare written and verbal information from psychological assessments for presentation at multidisciplinary meetings

Assist in the delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, and to support families, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist- To administer individual interventions where appropriate

Work with other staff in the application of psychological interventions

Assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients in the service, across all settings where care takes place.

Organise and present psycho educational classes

Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings

Education, Qualifications and Traininig

Essential criteria

Single honours degree in Psychology (upper second class or higher)

Desirable criteria

Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology,

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

Paid experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or alongside a Practitioner Psychologist

Experience of conducting literature searches and reviews

Desirable criteria

Experience of working with groups

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria

Knowledge of developmental processes from childhood to old age

Understanding the needs of individuals with psychological difficulties

An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge and skills to a healthcare setting

Understanding of issues relating to confidentiality

High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.

Essential criteria

Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals

Ability to cope with and maintain professionalism in potentially upsetting circumstances around serious illness or impending death of a patient or bereavement issues

Ability to recognise limits of own expertise and to seek advice/support when necessary.
