About the team

Shelter is delivering a Peer Mentor Service in partnership with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust’s Forensic Intensive Support Recovery Teams (FIRST). The service provides Peer Mentors who use their lived experience of complex needs to provide early intervention to enhance the support available, address health and social inequalities and reduce re-offending behaviours - and we need your help. About the role Right now, we’re seeking a Team Leader to take responsibility for the delivery and line management of the Peer Mentor Service across our delivery areas. Based at our Birmingham Hub, we’ll rely on you to manage and support peer mentors to deliver a personalised, holistic package of support, integrating joint working protocols within NHS services. You’ll also be responsible for allocating referrals and working with the Service Manager and Commissioners to identify gaps in provision and examples of positive and negative practice in service delivery. This work will then be used to contribute towards effective and demonstratable systems change. We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit. About you To succeed, you’ll need to be forward thinking and flexible and actively support the introduction of new ideas, methods and processes. You’ll also need experience of supporting and managing staff, including providing day to day and formal supervision, plus a good understanding of homelessness, housing, and welfare benefits issues. Used to promoting take-up of services amongst multi-disciplinary teams (both internal and external) an understanding of employing individuals with lived experience of complex needs would be useful too. Proficiency using a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including case management systems, Microsoft applications, internet, email etc., is also required, as is the ability to type. Benefits We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave (pro rata), enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme. Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
