Do you want to be critical in supplying Antarctic research facilities and vessels? The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for experienced logistics professionals and system / applications administrators to join our team. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on, feed the research and support teams and keep everyone safe!

You'll be joining our Supply Chain Logistics team who enableour staff to work safely, in the right clothing, with the right equipment, in the right place. Deliveressential science support equipment and goodsat the right time and supportthe organisations aspirations through best practice and efficient practices.

You'll help us to deliver BAS's critical work in the Antarctic and elsewhere around the globe. The role holder will be involved in the commissioning of new Logistics Management Systems, responding to user requests, evaluation of system change requests and ensuring systems are fit for purpose and function as expected. This work will support the delivery of world-class science in some of the most inhospitable places on earth.

Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop a career in logistics with a variety of training courses and on the job development, creating a bedrock in Antarctic logistics professionalism. Deployment opportunities will further expand the successful candidates work experience at BAS by working closely with other teams.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Be responsible for the applications or solutions to which you are assigned including any interdependencies with other organisational systems and integrations with other business solutions/systems.
  • Be involved in the design, development, testing and implementation of any new solutions or improvements to current solutions.
  • Perform application support through testing, implementation, and training.
  • Analyse and define specifications for enhancements in performance of existing logistics system

Current projects the team are working on include:
  • The implementation and move in to of a new warehouse in the new Rothera Research Stations Discovery Building .
  • The packing and prepping of all the new furniture, fittings and equipment for the Rothera Research Stations Discovery Building .
  • The upscaling of UK Supply Chain Logistics capabilities with the implementation and move in to of a new UK warehouse facility.
  • The use of new Logistics management systems to help the team to operate new processes and facilities.
  • The procurement, receiving and preparation of Antarctic station supplies and science equipment for shipment of the 24/25 Antarctic science campaign.
  • The training on and use of new plant for warehouse operations.

For the role of Systems Lead, we are looking for somebody who:
  • Relevant IT experience. This could be either a degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Systems integration experience
  • Experience of working successfully in a small team
  • Delivering training to die group of stakeholders
