Chelmsford City Racecourse opened its doors in 2015 and since then has gone on to become one of the busiest racecourses in the UK. By providing some of the highest prize-money in British racing, the racecourse routinely attracts some of the most successful and prominent trainers and jockeys in the world.
We also hold an amazing array of concerts and festivals from a wide range of acts; from the likes of Sophie-Ellis Bextor, Razorlight, Boyzone, and Steps to tribute acts for bands such as Queen and ABBA.
JOB PURPOSE
To support the payroll processes of the organisation to ensure the accurate and timely payment of employees. To work with the department heads to ensure that the correct staff resource is rostered and booked according to the business requirements within budget.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assisting in the preparation and processing of payroll for employees
Maintaining and updating employee records including tax and other relevant information.
Verify timekeeping records and consult employees about any discrepancies
Record payroll data in software systems and cross-check it against timesheets and schedules
Answer staff queries regarding payroll and resolve any payroll errors
Prepare reports for upper management, finance department and auditors
Maintain confidentiality and security of employee and company payroll information
Manage the payroll mailbox
Work with the department heads to plan staff resources for all events and functions within budget
Ensure all rota’s are uploaded into the time and attendance system
Monitor staff clocking’s to ensure accuracy and action any system exceptions.
Communicating with staff on shift availability & confirming allocated shifts. Dealing with any cancellations to ensure sufficient shift cover
Other payroll and planning duties as directed by the Chief Operating Officer or the Management Accountant.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proven experience as a payroll assistant or related role
Strong excel skills.
Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail
Ability to handle confidential information.
Understanding payroll practices and related tax and legal obligations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Highly motivated with the ability to multi-task and work independently.
Analytical mind with excellent communication and presentation skills.
Excellent attention to detail and quality of all work produced.
Solutions-focused with a “can do” attitude.

Able to work outside normal office hours as required, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
