We are a busy 29 bedded Stroke Unit – offering specialised and excellent care for patients in their hyper-acute, acute and rehabilitation phases post-stroke. We also manage other general medical conditions. We run a 24/7 thrombolysis & stroke assessment service and you will be part of this dynamic team.

Main duties of the job

You will have the opportunity to have in house training about Stroke care and knowledge.

Within this role, some of the duties you will be expected to carry out include:

  • To successfully complete the Trust’s preceptorship programme (applicable only to newly qualified and return to practice Registered Nurses).
  • Maintain a high standard of nursing care applying evidence-based practice.
  • Carry out assessment, planning, delivery, evaluation of nursing care and escalate any clinical concerns to a senior nurse as required.
  • Carry out the daily personal individualised care of patients
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Update patient administration systems e.g. PAS to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.
  • Effectively use information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with Trust Policy.
  • Communicate with patients, clients and relatives on emotional and sensitive issues.
  • Promote health education to patients, carers and significant others.

    The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King's Lynn is West Norfolk has a superb unspoilt coastline with pretty villages, all with their own individual charm. The medieval port of King's Lynn has some very interesting architecture.

    We provide a comprehensive range of specialist and general acute services to around 331,000 people across West and North Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire. We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers and approximately 500 beds on a single site. Some specialist services and clinics are provided in community facilities, such as the North Cambridgeshire hospital in Wisbech. We work in partnership with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services.

    In February 2022 the QEH the Care Quality Commission rated the Trust as 'Good' in all of the core services they inspected, and recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).

    This vacancy is for Registered Nurses with full NMC registration in the UK. If you are an internationally trained nurse that has not passed their OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) you will not be considered for this role and will be automatically rejected, so please do not apply.

    Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse with the NMC or working towards and due to qualify in the next six months
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing or equivalent
  • Desirable criteria

  • Teaching and Assessing qualification
  • Undertaken mentorship training

  • Relevant experience of looking after patients in a healthcare environment
