Job summary

A brand-new opportunity has been developed for newly qualified and recently registered adult general nurses, who wish to work across the full range of community facing services as part of a two year rotational programme.

There will be four rotational experiences across in-patient rehab, end of life care, community nursing, urgent community response and the nurse led clinic. This is a fantastic opportunity to begin your career in the community, gain vital experience and skills that are different to traditional ward nursing and also grow in autonomy! All while being supported through our excellent preceptorship pathway by our experienced practice educators.

The posts are fixed term for 2 years, and rotations will be 6 monthly. We offer a rotational incentive of 1000 paid in three instalments over the 2 years (conditions apply), to enable you to meet any additional expenses associated with these rotation posts.

Our teams operate from multiple bases across Mid and North Hampshire, as such we can consider geographical requests for rotation allocations. We offer practical solutions to working shift patterns that support a better work life balance, if you have specific needs around shift times and working patterns, please speak with us as we will try to find a mutually agreeable solution!

Start dates can be flexible, and you may be qualifying next year to start work from January 2025 onwards or have qualified within the last 12 months and have a desire to work in the community.

Main duties of the job

The Mid and North Physical Health Services are excited to offer a new rotational programme for those graduating adult nursing pathways this year, and also those who have graduated within the last 12 months.

The rotation will take place across 4 placements, lasting 6 months each. Successful applicants will rotate through:

Community Inpatient Wards at Alton Hospital

Community Nursing Teams Across Mid and North Hampshire

Community Clinics

Urgent Community Response

Alongside clinical development and skills acquisition, the rotation programme supports new graduates to develop leadership and management skills that will prepare you for future rolls at the end of the rotation.

We are offering a financial incentive to join and complete our rotation that will be paid in three instalments, totalling 1000 over three years. This is to aid with any additional travel, living or education costs unique to rotating staff members.

Rotation Placements are varied, and requests for certain base locations can be considered. We welcome applications from those who can work full time or part time (minimum hours per week). We are a family friendly employer and have a range of strategies to support people with family caring responsibilities to work a range of shift patterns that meet their own and their team's needs. So please enquire if this is you.

About us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services. Our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, is set to launch in July 2024.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
