In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, social workers, and external agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of children in our care. You will play a key role in supporting staff to implement policies and procedures to safeguard children and providing training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder, as part of the Safeguarding Children Team, will support the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children in meeting requirements set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023). This work will incorporate the key elements of the Children Acts 1989 and 2004 and the National Service Framework for Children, Young people and Maternity Services (2004) and the Care Quality Commission Core Standard 7 (Safeguarding people who use services from abuse).

The post holder will provide safeguarding children advice and support, safeguarding children supervision and training to practitioners. The role also includes providing advice and support in relation to children in need including children with disabilities and those children identified as vulnerable in any way.

The post holder will improve and facilitate robust communication pathways between hospital staff and professionals across the safeguarding partnership in the community, primary care and other agencies.

The post holder will work with the Named Nurse for safeguarding children to undertake audits and support the development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures in relation to safeguarding children.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse/Registered Sick Children’s Nurse//SCPHN (Health Visiting) or equivalent
  • Desirable criteria

  • BSc(Honours) or working towards
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Evidence of involvement in child protection practice Evidence of inter-agency/multiprofessional working.
  • Experience of being involved in clinical audit and evaluation.
  • Evidence of facilitating and supporting change in practice
  • Experience of receiving safeguarding children supervision
  • Experience of providing safeguarding children supervision
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working with and, development of, safeguarding children’s procedures within the hospital
  • Evidence of creating and providing educational programmes
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of key legislation and guidance underpinning safeguarding children practice
  • Knowledge of child protection procedures and practice.
  • Knowledge of professional accountability in relation to safeguarding children
  • Desirable criteria

  • ENB 998 Reaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice or equivalent
