We’re looking for people that are ready to dive headfirst into the world of Smart Metering Installations. Age? Gender? Background? Just numbers and stories that make you, you. We’re here for your drive, your passion, and that fire in your eyes.
At our award-winning academies, you’ll absorb the wisdom, grasp the skills, and earn the qualifications to emerge as a top-tier Smart Metering Engineer – a true household hero. Under the wing of our experienced engineers, you’ll soon learn how to deliver energy efficient solutions to our customers through installing smart meters.

Your mission is to help us mend it.
You’ll be working for British Gas. We’ve been heating Britain's homes for over 200 years, but we’re just getting started. We light up communities, create smart, energy-efficient homes and put smiles on the faces of over 10 million customers.
SMART meters are the in-house tech that unlock the magic to a greener future. Sending data in real time, they show our customers exactly how much energy they’re using in pounds and pence – helping them to see where they can make savings.
As an apprentice, you’ll grasp the skills not just to install and repair them – but to make sure our customers are getting the best out of them too. Scroll down, to see where we are currently recruiting.
Skills you need to succeed:
4 GCSEs, ideally including Maths & English, at grade C/4 or above or a recognised equivalent
A genuine passion for learning a trade, striving for a successful career & providing awesome customer service
A full UK driving licence with 6 points or less
Availability to attend training at one of our four UK academies – with accommodation and travel provided if needed.
Here’s what's in it for you:
Starting salary of £15,435 rising to £23,877 at week 52 of your apprenticeship, there will be further increases to your salary during this time which will be confirmed later in our process.
Once you have completed the full programme and aftercare support your salary will increase to £37,104 with bonus and add ons on top.
We also offer London Weighting Allowance ranging from £4000 to £6000 (dependant on location) for living or starting your day within London.
