Every day, Trading works to secure the best possible energy cost for our members. We do this through using our wholesale market expertise to make good trading decisions. Through developing a within day power trading capability, we are looking to expand this into the within day market, which we believe will be crucial for our customers in the future. As our customers begin to generate electricity from solar, store energy in home batteries and charge their electric cars, we believe being active in the within-day power market is important for the future.

Join our team as we develop a groundbreaking within-day trading desk, an innovation that will reshape the way we optimize power balancing activities and drive P&L growth for OVO. Your in-depth knowledge of UK Power markets and global energy trends will be critical. You will harness the power of data to make informed trading decisions. Collaborate closely with our tech and data science teams to forge a cutting-edge analytical capability that will be your key toolkit every day.

Expect to be a key player in hitting those multi-million-pound P&L targets. Your skills will be put to the test as you optimize our extensive within-day power positions and strategically take calculated risks to build additional value. Your key outcomes will be:

Delivery of a brand new within day power trading capability (currently in development)

Hitting an annual £m target versus existing costs and benchmarks. 

Building into a position to lead this team.

Within your first few months month you’ll:

Developed out initial EPEX trading setup and OVO’s within day power trading approach. 

Have worked with our portfolio management team to deliver a book structure, risk and P&L reporting suite.

Developed a detailed plan to build a groundbreaking analytical toolkit.

Systems: BMRS data, our ETRM system, Reporting tools like Tableau, SQL, Python

You’ll be a successful Short Term Power Trader at OVO if you…

Have 2-4 years experience, and are looking to develop quickly.

Boast good experience as an Energy Trading professional in UK Power markets developed through your first few years in the industry.

Have experience across UK Wholesale Power and Gas Markets, coupled with a deep understanding of the global energy landscape.

Showcase a history of contributing through astute trading, particularly in optimizing Power balancing activities.

Can demonstrate a drive and ambition to succeed in this challenging market. 

Demonstrate experience in cross-functional teamwork, delivering successful projects in partnership with diverse teams.

Possess a flair for innovative thinking, thriving on direct responsibility and consistently delivering tangible value.

Display a keen eye for critical analysis, optimally interrogating model outputs and providing valuable feedback for continuous improvement and heightened accuracy.

Have good interpersonal and communication skills, effectively presenting clear recommendations, and swiftly responding with conclusive actions.

We’ll pay you between £40,000 and £60,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!
