Shared Lives carers open their homes to support people from the age of 18, with a learning disability, autism, physical disability, sensory impairment or mental health condition.
For carers it provides a flexible, interesting job with a fantastic work life balance. With great opportunities for skills development, working as a self-employed professional with support from our team you can offer three types of services from your own home:
- Long term support is where the person would live with you and your family.
- Our Short Breaks (respite) is where the person would come and stay for the odd night, weekend or maybe a week or two.
- By becoming a Shared Lives carer, you will make a real difference to the person you support, giving them improved quality of life and supporting social inclusion.
We have identified people who would benefit from Shared Lives, we just need new carers. We believe it is one of the most rewarding things you'll ever do.
Previous experience is not necessary as each Shared Lives carer brings their own unique skills and experience to the job. Our existing Shared Lives carers are carers who may work full time, part time, retired, attending further education, young families, single parents and foster carers. We ask that you have a desire to help people, life experience and a commitment and positive approach to supporting people.
You will receive payment in return for the support you provide, for example:
Shared Lives carers supporting someone with low level needs would receive a payment of £155.40 per week for a long-term arrangement or someone with higher level needs would receive a payment of £260.40 per week. Both levels of support also receive an additional payment towards room costs, food and utilities of £107.68 per week. Bringing the total to either £263.08 or £368.08 per week.
Shared Lives carers supporting individuals with regular respite opportunities would receive a payment of £155.40 per week for supporting someone with low level needs or £260.40 for supporting someone with higher level needs. Both levels of respite support also receive an additional payment of £48.18 towards food and utilities per week.
Shared Lives carers supporting with a 24-hour overnight stay would receive a payment of £49.00 per night for supporting someone with low level needs or £66.00 per night for supporting someone with higher level needs. Shared Lives carers will also receive a daily contribution towards food and utilities of £6.88.
