An opportunity has arisen to lead the Private Sector Housing Team and Private Rented Property Licensing Scheme as the Private Sector Housing Service Manager.

The Private Sector Housing Service at Barking and Dagenham is part of a larger group of Regulatory Services within the Law and Governance Directorate.

The purpose of this role is to support the Head of Service in the review and development of all private sector housing functions to ensure that the service improves the quality, safety, and choice of residential accommodation in Barking and Dagenham.

The post will set out the strategy, and drive and manage the service to deliver the aims through management of property licensing and effective regulation and application of the range of legislative powers.

The post will ensure governance arrangements are adhered to in respect of licensing of rented properties and enforcement action against criminal landlords, in accordance with proper governance principles.

Special requirements for this post

The successful candidate must hold a BSc Environmental Health or other relevant Housing qualification. They must also be able to demonstrate key competencies
in investigative skills, Comprehensive knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, Crime & Disorder Act 1998, and Environmental Health legislation.

About you

You will be a flexible, dynamic, and enthusiastic service manager with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to your duties to get them completed as efficiently as possible. The successful candidate with have a proven track record of delivery, development and successful management of excellent regulatory services delivered in partnership with the community and others in a customer focused manner.

The successful candidate will have an ability to create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships within the service and external partners. They will also have a clear understanding and commitment to the principles of equality and diversity, including a clear understanding of the needs of a diverse community. The postholder will have an ability to manage human, physical and financial budgetary resources effectively.
