So, if you want to be part of a diverse team where opportunities flow and fresh ideas are welcomed, #JustAddWater.Opportunity for a Senior Water Resources Planner to support the water resources management strategies, covering South West Water, Bristol Water, Bournemouth Water and Isles of Scilly regions. You will receive a competitive salary of circa £48,000 to £52,000 plus an excellent benefits package. The Role The water resource strategic planning team is responsible for creating the WRMP, Drought Management Plan and supporting the WINEP investigation delivery. They will be the guiding mind for our 50 year strategy and help to shape the investment cases for long term water resource options for the operating regions.As Senior Water Resources Planner you will be responsible for commission and overseeing delivery of analysis on water supply and demand dynamics. You will take the outcomes of this analysis and assess risks and identify opportunities to enhance the sustainability and resilience of our water resources. Your expertise will be essential in guiding strategic decision-making; working closely with others both inside and outside the organization. You'll need to know a lot about managing water resources, and you'll use your skills to come up with new ideas and make sure we're following regulation and industry best practise.

What you'll be doing:

  • You will draw on data presented to you by analysts to influence decision-makers. Interrogating demand and supply outputs to inform WRMP development and Business Plan WR chapters.
  • You will be involved in the planning, execution, and monitoring of water resource projects and ensure they adhere to timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the identification, screening, and appraisal of new supply options, including alternative sources such as groundwater, surface water, and recycled water
  • Scope and oversee delivery (via the Modelling Data and Systems team) of hydrological modelling and supply system modelling and interpret outputs to forecast future water supplies accurately.
  • Develop and apply investment decision-making tools to assess the best-value options for water resources infrastructure investments.
  • Proactively managed SDBI Objectives adjusting Supply Strategy to support delivery of Objectives.
  • Lead the efforts to integrate water supply requirements with other catchment drivers, such as water quality management and flood risk mitigation.
  • Conduct assessments, review data, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the efficient allocation and conservation of water for various purposes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to assess and prioritise water infrastructure projects, such as reservoirs, treatment plants, and distribution systems, to meet future water demands and enhance system resilience.
  • Proactively engage with local EA teams on inputs to and outputs of the WRMP
  • What we are looking for:

  • Proficiency in engaging internal and external stakeholders and partners, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to diverse audience.
  • You will need critical thinking skills coupled with strong decision-making capabilities to ensure you can convert the data provided by modellers and analysts into a vision and strategy for the WR team.
  • You will have a blend of expertise, leadership, and innovation in the field of water resources management. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate complex challenges while driving positive change.
  • Scientific/ Environmental/ Hydrology/ related Degree
  • Experience in water resources planning in a regulated environment, with a focus on strategic planning and analysis
  • Experience of running water resources system models such as Miser, Aquator or PYWR, or with other hydraulic modelling tools such as EPANET or Infoworks
