Job overview

This is a replacement post to join the established team in continuing to provide a high-quality service. The post is being advertised as a locum post in the first instance with the aim to advertise as a substantive post at a future date. The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi–disciplinary team providing and further developing care for Children/Young People from the Child Health services, and to provide and develop services to the Trust’s young patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

Main duties of the job

This is a fixed term replacement Consultant post. The remit of the postholder would be to work within the multi-disciplinary paediatric respiratory and cystic fibrosis teams providing and developing care for patients and to provide and develop paediatric respiratory and cystic fibrosis services to the Trust’s patients. Duties include:

1.Consolidating our long-standing position as the major provider of tertiary paediatric respiratory services to South London and the Southeast and extending paediatric respiratory outreach services along the lines of our well-established cystic fibrosis clinical network in the Southeast region.

2.Advancing our research agenda, focusing on areas of clinical strength in paediatric respiratory medicine at Denmark Hill and KHP.

3.Building a network of centres providing tertiary paediatric respiratory care in South London with close links between the different sites and with North London centres as previously recommended by the London Tertiary Paediatric Services Review.

Although the post-holder will work principally within the Paediatric Respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis Centre in the Variety Children’s Hospital at King’s College Hospital, there will be potential for future work in outreach clinics in the Southeast region. In addition, the individual will play an active part in the general workload of the department while having a commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
