The project:

A water company based in Coventry, England that supplies 4.6 million households and business with a responsibility to supply freshwater and treat sewage for around 8 million people living in the midlands of England and a small area of Wales. This is a senior manager role within the client's capital delivery team, responsible for supporting the delivery of major improvements to their wastewater networks. You'll be accountable for providing commercial support to several projects from inception to completion and you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team ensuring successful delivery to time, cost, and quality commitments. The role will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of the client’s programme through effective planning and day to day management of the programme schedule. This will involve creating, analysing, and managing programme, directly supporting the project managers and the supply chain.

  • Accountable for the planning function on allocated project/ tender. Accountable for ensuring that projects/tenders are effectively planned, scheduled, and monitored. Supports project management function in delivery of the project/ tender, as required. ensuring they are delivered on time and profitably. Responsible for the planning of medium to high complexity projects, a portfolio projects or sections of larger projects.

    You’ll be responsible for:

  • Understanding and reviewing appropriate documents such as the current high-level programme, the existing organisation structure and the WBS and CBS

  • Prioritising the CSO projects that are most urgent for baseline implementation, implementation of standardised ‘fragnets’ across all 360 Projects.

  • Build strong relationships with client’s design, procurement, construction, land & consents managers, stakeholder communications and governance leads.

  • Establish reporting/dashboard reporting to be interim best in class reporting and pathway to adoption of schedule performance indicators including earned schedule.

  • Standardise requirements to support works information/employer’s requirement to ensure contractors deliver cost loaded programmes, quality checks, etc.

  • With the head of planning deliver an efficient planning function based on industry best practice and develop and embed a planning and scheduling management.

  • Process that includes all the scheduling requirements

  • Baseline and change control - support, review and implement a change and baseline management process.

  • Ensure planning is carried out for all projects including management of and adherence to important dates, milestones, and outages.

  • Provide value added programme reporting at project, delivery team and business level.

  • Design, develop and introduce a process for programme risk analysis.

  • Ensure where appropriate supply chain equipment manufacture milestones are incorporated into project programme and develop cost and resource loaded tender programmes.

  • Deployment of Level 3/4 schedule at project level to allow change impact assessment and scenario planning.

  • Leads application of specific planning/scheduling methods, techniques, and tools

  • Good working knowledge of planning/scheduling, earned value management (EVM), project controls methodologies.

  • Communicate effectively with the client, project team and stakeholders.

  • Influence on complex requirements and communicate analysis and corrective measures effectively.

  • Leads and manages a team of professionals delivering planning/schedule management services and responsible for team/individual development.

  • Influences client to accept proposals and recommendations.

  • Undertakes task/s required to fulfil the requirements of the project/assignment.

  • Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

  • You’ll need to have:

  • Excellent written communication skills, clear & concise.

  • In depth knowledge of schedule management tools & software.

  • Significant experience in the use of planning techniques in a range of multi-disciplinary sectors.

  • Ideally degree educated, preferably in a construction/engineering discipline (or equivalent).

  • Proficiency in project management, construction management, and an SME on scheduling software, particularly Primavera P6 & MSP

  • Strong knowledge of project controls, work breakdown structure, CPM, and earned value management, being able to analyse schedules, identify & model impacts, and develop recovery schedules.

  • Must be able to work well in a team, communicate effectively, and be highly organised.

  • Planning experience in large infrastructure projects and/or leading a Major programme planning team; incorporating design, engineering, construction, and commissioning functions.

  • Degree in related engineering discipline or qualified by appropriate level of experience.

  • Ability to use a variety of computer software including developing and maintaining spreadsheets and databases (including SAP, Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
