Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provide a commissioned mental health service which delivers mental health care to men in custody at HMP Forest Bank. The team provide mental health assessment, treatment and support to cover a wide range of mental health conditions working within the stepped care model.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Mental Health Nurse to join our team, on a 12 month fixed term contract, in providing secondary mental health care which is delivered in the prison. This post is part of the secondary mental health team which is comparable to a community mental health team in the community.

This post is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage individuals with secondary mental health service needs whilst hey are in prison custody. This includes assisting in the delivery and development of effective, needs based, modern mental health services within the prison .

The post holder should be expert in all areas of service delivery, ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the effective management of their own caseload and be expected to effectively utilize nursing skills and resources to provide high quality service to all service users. This role requires the post holder to contribute to maintaining the CPA process throughout the legal and custodial process.

  • RMN Registration completion of preceptorship program
  • Good knowledge and experience of risk assessment and management. Knowledge of Mental Health Act and other mental health legislation including CPA
  • Knowledge of factors affecting secure mental health care and the contemporary mental health agenda •Ability to analyse problems, gather relevant information and exercise sound judgement in reaching the most appropriate conclusions. Ability to prioritise workload, work at a fast pace and meet deadlines.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of continuous practice development related to delivering psychological interventions to both individuals and group work
  • Training in psychological interventions
  • Experience of working in offender health or within a forensic setting.
  • Ability to write reports and present information in a concise way
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
