Job summary
We are currently looking to recruit a keen, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our prostate cancer team. This is a new, non-traditional specialist nurse role within the advanced clinical practitioner team and is focused on improving the diagnostic prostate cancer pathway.
You will have the knowledge and skills to assess patients requiring investigations for suspected prostate cancer. The post holder will be responsible for delivering a high quality, seamless pathway for the patients. Including organising timely investigations non-medical prescribing, and advice around the patients condition.
You will require at least three years experience at band 6 level working within an oncology/urology clinical nurse specialist role. You will also be a non-medical prescriber and have a teaching/ mentorship qualification.
Consideration would be given to trainee applicants at Band 6 level if unable to meet the essential criteria, and willing to work towards this.

Main duties of the job
Deliver high quality clinical care to patients attending the prostate service.
Clinical decision-making, and sound clinical expertise and knowledge of prostate cancer and their treatments.
To appropriately assess, investigate, and treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients.
The role will include telephone assessment clinics and clinics in the outpatient setting.
Managing referrals, triage of patients to ensure a timely pathway in line with the 28-day faster diagnosis standard and ensure the appropriate pathway and investigations are requested.
Initiate pharmacological intervention, using non-medical prescribing and administer medications as prescribed by others in accordance with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals policies.
To interpret laboratory and radiological results and initiate appropriate patient management.
Working cohesively with the Advanced Clinical Practitioner team, and with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to the development of prostate cancer care pathways to ensure a standardised approach to care.

The post holder will work with the advanced clinical practitioner team and support the service for patients who are referred on the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
The successful candidate will be responsible for patients undergoing investigations for suspected prostate cancer.
With the appropriate support and training we expect the individual to provide high quality clinical care to patients attending the prostate cancer service. This includes assessment of patients, organising appropriate investigations, and safely treating and discharging patients where applicable.
The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team to implement and improve the patient pathway and will be expected to develop new skills to further enhance the quality of the service delivered.
The job holder will provide training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.
