ROLE AND TEAM:

  • As part of our on-going growth strategy, we are looking for a Senior Associate to join the Infrastructure, Projects & Energy ( IPE ) team and help service our ever-growing roster of major infrastructure, renewables, energy transition, utilities, transport, health, central government and local authority clients.
  • The team in Scotland has grown rapidly over the last 12 months and you will be working closely with the 6 partners, the wider Scottish associate team as well as the larger IPE team located across our UK and international offices.
  • Addleshaw Goddard's ( AG ) IPE practice is known for its quality and breadth of expertise. As one of the most established multi-disciplinary teams of any law firm in the UK, we advise on sector firsts and some of the most high-profile matters in the UK, working closely with other market leading AG teams such as Corporate, Finance, Construction, Regulatory, Property & Planning. Across our key sectors of infrastructure, utilities, transport, renewables, energy transition and health we advise a broad spectrum of clients in the public and private sector including developers, sponsors, funders, central government and local authorities.
  • Clients include: UK Government, Scottish Government, UKIB, Scottish National Investment Bank, DESNZ, SSE, 3i, Dalmore Capital, Bute Energy, Scottish Water , Southern Water, MoD and DfT.
  • WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE ROLE:

  • You will have the opportunity to advise private and public sector clients across all of our key sectors, as well as continuing to build on the expertise you will have developed to date in sectors you have a particular interest in.
  • By ensuring you are exposed to the full "life-cycle" of a project, this will allow you to also hone your project management skills, assuming the lead role on matters as well as giving you the opportunity to draft and negotiate key project and finance contracts.
  • With a rapidly growing team, you will be expected to fully utilise the junior associate, trainee and para-legal team on your matters, delegating tasks, providing training and feedback to assist with their development.
  • As a Senior Associate, you will be a key part of the leadership team's business development strategy, helping the team to enhance existing key relationships and developing strategies for key target clients and new sectors such as Hydrogen and PFI hand-back.
  • You will be expected to keep up to date with current market trends applying this practically and commercially to the transactions you are working on. In this respect, we will also encourage you to contribute thought leadership articles, present updates to clients and attend conferences.

  • KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    You will have:

  • Have at least 5years PQE + experience advising on matters across a number of the IPE team's key sectors.
  • Have enthusiasm, resilience, and ambition to find solutions to clients' legal challenges and requirements.
  • Be experienced in engaging with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
  • Adopt a consultative and thorough approach to tasks.
  • Maintain efficient diary and task management across a range matters, ensuring the accuracy and levels of client service expected within a high performing team.
  • Be confident in drafting clear and legally effective documents, which reflect the client's instructions.
  • Remain calm and optimistic in time sensitive situations or under pressure.
  • Be enthusiastic about the development of your legal skill set and continuous learning.
  • Be inquisitive and want to understand our clients, their drivers and what matters to them, so that your advice has quality, imagination, and impact.
