Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a well established High School in Chester as they are looking to recruit a motivated and reliable teaching assistant to support a pupil in year 8 on a 1:1 basis. This pupils has ASD and is on an EHCP. This is a long-term temporary contract starting from September 2024.


Your new role

In your new role as a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting a pupil in year 8 with autism. You will be this pupils' main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate, walking them back to their parents/guardians at the end of the day and liaising with their parents/guardian's and SENCO on a regular basis. You will support this students during lessons and during break/lunch times, ensuring that all activities are safe, inclusive and accessible for them. This pupil is partially non-verbal, so you may be required to use PECs and visual aids tomunicate as well as focus on their speech and language development. They will at times trigger so you will also be required to effectively manage their behaviour by identifying triggers, using distraction and deescaltion where possible and utilise the sensory room.


What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience working with children and young people in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Previous experience working with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders)
  • Previous experience supporting young people in KS3 (Key Stage 3) age bracket (11 - 14)
  • An NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning is advantageous but not essential
