SEMH Teaching Assistant Salary: £95 - £110 per day

Contract: Part-Time/Full-Time

GSL Education’s South Yorkshire Branch is seeking enthusiastic people to join our client school as Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) Teaching Assistants for the upcoming September 2024 term. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience and support students in their progress.

Job Summary: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to students facing challenges related to their social, emotional, and mental health. A SEMH Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching staff and external professionals to create a nurturing environment where every student feels valued and supported.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students identified with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of lessons under the guidance of the subject teacher.
  • Implement strategies and interventions to manage challenging behavior effectively.
  • Create a supportive learning environment.
  • Support teacher in assessing student progress and maintaining records of achievement.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Promote positive mental health and well-being across the school community.
  • Support the school’s behavior management policies to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support subject teachers in maintaining classroom discipline and engagement.

The Essential Requirements for Successful SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
  • Must have enthusiasm, patience, and a passion for education.
  • Adapt effectively to varying classroom dynamics and educational settings.
  • Must have strong communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
