Location: Ashington
Salary: £75 - £110 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Part Time/Full Time

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) to join our friendly and supportive team at a school in Ashington. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners and help them achieve their full potential.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary), you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to create a safe, nurturing environment for children with SEMH needs. You will play a key role in helping students to develop their social and emotional skills, build their confidence, and overcome barriers to learning.

Responsibilities as a SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary):

  • Support students with SEMH needs in their learning and development
  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering lessons tailored to individual student needs
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students
  • Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm and effective way
  • Encourage positive social interactions and emotional well-being
  • Support students in developing independence and life skills
  • Work with other staff and external professionals to create personalised support plans

To be a successful SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) you should:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs (preferred)
  • A positive and patient attitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one
