SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Salary: £75 - £110 per day

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) to join our friendly and supportive team at a school in Ashington. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners and help them achieve their full potential.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary), you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to create a safe, nurturing environment for children with SEMH needs. You will play a key role in helping students to develop their social and emotional skills, build their confidence, and overcome barriers to learning.
Responsibilities as a SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary):
- Support students with SEMH needs in their learning and development
- Assist the teacher in planning and delivering lessons tailored to individual student needs
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students
- Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm and effective way
- Encourage positive social interactions and emotional well-being
- Support students in developing independence and life skills
- Work with other staff and external professionals to create personalised support plans
To be a successful SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) you should:
- Experience working with children with SEMH needs (preferred)
- A positive and patient attitude
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one
