Job Details

We’re a proudly Northern charity that provides tutoring in schools on a not-for-profit basis. Our mission is to transform lives through tutoring – we offer subsidised, high-quality tutoring to young people who might otherwise not have access to a tutor, to support them to unlock their potential.

Working directly in partnership with Primary and Secondary schools across the Greater Manchester, Merseyside, and Leeds-Bradford city regions, we support pupils in Maths, English, and Science. We also work in Alternative Provision (AP) settings and with Looked After Children (LAC).

About the role

  • You’ll tutor in  Secondary Science.
  • You’ll plan and deliver tuition for groups of up to three pupils.
  • You’ll form impactful relationships with pupils over the course of a tuition assignment (usually 15 weeks).
  • You will work on a self-employed basis.
  • Tutoring usually takes place during the school day on the school premises.

What we’re offering

Make a difference in young people’s lives across the North. As a tutor, you’ll:

  • Earn £21 minimum to plan and deliver each hour of tuition.
  • Work with small groups of pupils – either 1:1 or 1:3.
  • Gain key teaching skills from our core tutor training programme (which is delivered online and takes 10-15 hours to complete).
  • Have access to ongoing support and Continued Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
  • Work on a self-employed basis.

What we’re looking for

  • At least three hours’ availability a week to deliver tutoring.
  • For Secondary tutors, a grade of A/7 in the relevant GCSE subject (or equivalent).  Extenuating circumstances will be considered.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check, provided and paid for by The Tutor Trust.
  • Ability to register as self-employed in the UK. Read our FAQs if you’re unsure about your eligibility to do so.
  • No teaching experience is required but you should demonstrate a commitment to our mission, a love of your chosen subject, and a passion for helping others.

Resources and support

  • Read our application and training FAQs.
  • Follow our blog on perfecting your application.
  • Hear from Farhan, one of our Manchester tutors.
