An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the outpatients team as a Registered Nursing Associate. As part of our workforce development plan, we see RNA's as the future of our department. As a RNA in outpatients you will take charge in the outpatients areas. Line manage a cohort of junior staff, and assist with PDR's and 1:1's. You will be a mentor to students and apprentice nursing associates. Alongside the nursing staff you will responsible resource management and carrying out environmental audits.

We will support your clinical skill development by assigning monthly shifts in our day case unit Snow Fox where you will be able to practice medicine management and ambulatory care.

There is 1x full time post available (4 days a week hour days) and a part time 30 hours a week (3 days a week hour days). We also open x1 Saturday a month and run twilight clinics.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, forward-thinking Nursing Associates with excellent communication skills to join our nursing team in Outpatients.

The successful candidate will provide patient centred, evidence based care, maintain high care delivery standards and efficient, safe management of patients .

The nursing associate will provide support to the registered nurse by caring for patients and carry out specific clinical care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

The post holder will supervise and delegate appropriately to support staff within the team and assess clinical and care advice when needed. 

You should possess good interpersonal and time management skills, be a good communicator, organised and be able to prioritise and work well as a member of the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide induction and supervision to new staff, Nursing Assistants and students, and Trainee Nursing Associates encouraging an effective learning environment.
  • To provide support and supervision to Healthcare/Nursing Assistants to promote their learning and development within their role.
  • Provide clinical leadership to a team of Healthcare/ Nursing Assistants providing direction, support and challenge where necessary.
  • Provide sensitive, compassionate, safe and effective care to support people in a range of care settings, applying the principles and processes for making reasonable adjustments.

    Essential criteria

  • Previous experience working as a Registered Nursing Associate
  • Supervison of junior staff
  • Desirable criteria

  • Recent experience relevant to specialty
  • Education and Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • RNA Registered Nurse Associate on the NMC register
  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy competency
  • Committed to own personal development
  • Desirable criteria

  • Teaching or Assessing Qualification (including SSSA + P)
  • Skills/Knowledge/Ability

    Essential criteria

  • Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical care
  • Competent in obtaining and recording baseline patient observations
  • Demonstrates the ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners.
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within the Code.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic Computer Skills including ability to use Microsoft.
