Further Information There are exciting things happening in Children’s Services at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council!

Majella McCarthy, our new Director of Children’s Services joined us in April and is passionate about driving improvement in outcomes for children, young people and their families.

We have recently undergone a review and due to internal promotions and investment in a new senior management structure we are in an exciting position. We are looking for innovative and ambitious individuals who place children and young people at the centre of everything they do.

Do you want to work within our Relationship Based Practice Model, offering high support and high challenge to colleagues and partner agencies?

Are you dedicated to continuous improvement with the skills, knowledge and experience to identify what is working well and why as well as what we need to do better and how we can do this?

If you do, then look no further! We have created a new function which will focus on quality assurance and practice improvement across Children’s Services.

The role of Quality Assurance and Improvement Practitioner is a brand new post and we’re looking for someone who can support us to provide outstanding services to children and families in Stockton.

Quality in the Children’s Services world means making a positive difference, changing and improving lives. Making that difference motivates staff, managers and leaders. This can help with recruitment and retention and provide the organisational tone and culture likely to support strengths based and restorative working.

You will be supporting the Head of Service - Quality and Improvement to implement our Quality and Practice Improvement Framework across Children’s Services.

The role will be varied and will include leading on specific pieces of quality assurance activity, research and analysis into good and outstanding practice within Children’s Services and helping to understand, via our quality assurance activity, how practice in Stockton could and should improve. The post holder will also be involved in training and development initiatives, often arising from quality assurance activity to support the ongoing professional development of the workforce to ensure good and outstanding services are delivered.

You will need the ability to communicate and engage effectively with colleagues to build and maintain positive working relationships. You will also have the opportunity to present your findings to both strategic leaders and frontline safeguarding practitioners, sharing and disseminating important learning across the whole of children's workforce. You will need a sound understanding of child protection and safeguarding and to be able to demonstrate the ability to organise and deliver project-based work.

Additionally, analytical and report writing skills are essential to identify key findings, emerging themes, any areas for improvement, and to subsequently produce concise reports setting out the conclusions and recommendations.

You’ll be joining an ambitious organisation and Children’s Service, which have huge potential and an empowering culture. You’ll also be coming to a place on the precipice of significant transformation that will change lives for generations to come.

Alongside regular supervision, access to learning and development opportunities, mental health and well-being support, we offer an excellent reward package including:
  • A salary of £48,474 - £50,512 (plus pending pay award)
  • Relocation support of up to £8,000 to assist with your move to Stockton
  • Flexible Working arrangements – working across locations in Stockton and the ability to work some of your time from home.
