Job summary

We are looking for a self-motivated and flexible individual tojoin our busy dispensary team. Main duties will include processingand dispensing of prescriptions. Providing an efficient and friendly servicefor our dispensing patients. In this position you will work alongside our teamof dispensers and our dispensary management team.

Working pattern:

Monday and Tuesday 09:00 - 18:00

1 in 2 Saturdays 08: 30 - 11:30

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to issue and prepare prescriptions, collectprescription charges/check patient exemption statements and maintain full andaccurate records of all dispensing transactions.

You will play a vital role in the operation of efficient stockcontrol with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients andminimising wastage. You will also be responsible for ensuring that drugs arereceived and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturersinstructions.

Our successful candidate will project a positive and friendlyimage to patients, staff and other visitors and deal with queries in aprofessional, courteous and efficient way.

Job Summary

To process all relevant prescriptions asauthorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance withthe principles of good practice.

Job responsibilities

To ensure that all medicines andappliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there isdoubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labellinginstructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.

To collect all due prescription chargesand ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is dulyfilled in and signed by the patient.

To ensure that all monies received or handled onbehalf of the practice are appropriately stored and banked and a record kept ofall financial transactions.

To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate,collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the PPA for processing andreimbursement. The forms should be bundled in accordance with current PPAguidelines and include any necessary accompanying paperwork such as the FP34Dand invoices as required by the PPA.

To promptly forward all invoices and dispensaryrelated correspondence to the dispensary manager according to practice policy.

To promptly deal with any FP10 returns/feedbackfrom the PPA so that any appropriate remedial action may be taken.

To operate efficient stock control appropriate tothe needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supplyfor patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.

To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriatemanner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.

To ensure shelves and all work surfaces areregularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary andthat all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.

To take prompt action in response to any drugalert bulletins that may be received from time to time.

To ensure that refrigerated items are stored atthe appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature controlrecord/logbook.

To maintain full and accurate records of alldispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers and software whenappropriate.

To undertake any necessary work, includingadministrative, as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standardand efficient dispensing service.

Undertake a variety of administrativeduties to assisting in the smooth running of the business

To deal with patient enquiries using avariety of methods to ensure strong communication is maintained.

Accurately detail and record anySignificant events or near misses within the Dispensary Environment.

To work effectively as part of a largeteam, offering suggestions for improvement.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Candidate must have NVQ or equivalent dispensing qualification Level 2 or above.
  • Good standard of general education
  • Working in a medical/healthcare environment.
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Qualified to NVQ level 2 or above.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • IT confident
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of answering telephone queries in a busy environment. Experience of a computerised clinical system (EMIS, SystmOne etc.)
