The project:

A Project Manager opportunity to be part of the New Prisons Programme team, working collaboratively from inception to completion. As part of the role, the successful candidate will be leading the project(s) through the different RIBA stages, arrange and co-ordinate surveys for the sites and liaise with and co-ordinate the multidisciplinary team.

The applicant will be expected to provide project management across all stages to deliver the project against cost, time, and quality requirements. This role sits in our consultancy business, specifically the Justice sector.

This position will suit a candidate looking to further their career with a major project or programme role that is fast passed and industry leading. In addition to achieving the client’s own transformational estate objectives, the project's priorities include health safety and wellbeing, BIM and digital construction, sustainability, government soft landings, social value creation, people and skill development and collaboration. This programme is being used as a catalyst for some industry-wide innovations and would suit candidates interested in supporting and championing these causes.

The role is integrated within a multidisciplinary framework team including design services, commercial, project management office, sustainability, and utilities management. The project involves multiple sites, spread across the country, and forms part of Mace’s appointment to lead on the Ministry of Justice’s portfolio.

This is a client-facing role, responsible for working together with team members, developing the clients’ strategy, through to assisting in the appointment of the extended professional team of local consultants and contractors.

Your responsibilities will include:

·Bringing the multidisciplinary project team together to manage the outputs of the feasibility study, including commissioning surveys, coordinating design outputs, undertaking client reviews, and managing any changes to scope. 

·Developing and managing effective communication and liaison with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure that requirements are identified, assessed, and appropriately integrated into the project.

·Working with the client and reporting to the project lead responsible for helping to establish the strategy and delivery for the project.

·Assisting in developing the client’s brief, delivery strategy and leading the design management, procurement and execution of the scheme.

·Understanding of the design process throughout all stages of the project lifecycle and able to manage outputs and technical aspects as they arise. 

·Producing strategic project programme and have the ability to scrutinise and integrate programmes from consultants and contractors.

·Understanding of risk management and able to work with project teams to identify, schedule and establish mitigation strategy for project risks.

·Coordinating, planning and managing internal and external meetings in relation to the project.

·Driving the procurement of services and works required to deliver the project, including site surveys.

·Understanding of budgets, estimates and ability to review and challenge contractors’ proposals.

·Providing input into client system safety and project risk assessment and management process.

·Leading management of contract suppliers under the NEC4 suite of contract, from design and manufacture to delivery and final account. 

·Managing interfaces across multiple projects within the delivery programme to deliver optimum programme efficiencies and site completion.

·Managing pre-contract design development and post-contract scope changes in an efficient manner.

    Qualifications - External

    You’ll also have:

  • Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development. 

  • Experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes

  • Property or infrastructure project management expertise. 

  • Commercial and financial acumen. 

  • Experience of working on projects within large, diverse teams. 

  • Experience of developing and forming relationships with other stakeholders within projects. 

  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on

The MoJ Property Directorate brings together a property portfolio including Prisons, Probation, and MoJ HQ and Arm’s Length Bodies. We also provide property services on behalf of the Home Office.

    MoJ Property provides specialist services including facilities management, health and safety, fire safety and security, technical design expertise, and sustainability. We also have business management teams who support the entire Directorate and each of our partners is supported by account management teams. We are responsible for a great deal - our portfolio consists of properties valued at £8.5bn for the MoJ alone.
