The project: 

Working on a rapid build prison cells programme spread nationwide across 20+ sites; this role is for a project manager to deliver a project in North England within this programme. This is a client-facing role; collaboratively managing projects from inception to completion, through all RIBA stages.

Due to the scale of the programme, occasional travel to project site locations may be required.

  • Responsible for leading small to medium sized projects to deliver the agreed outcomes and deliverables within time, cost and quality requirements. Guides and coordinates with all relevant parties to understand and deliver project objectives and KPIs, providing day to day management and leadership of the project and the project team.

    You’ll be responsible for:

  • Bringing the multidisciplinary project team together to manage the outputs of the feasibility study, including commissioning surveys, coordinating design outputs, undertaking client reviews and managing any changes to scope. 

  • Client facing role; managing day to day delivery and co-ordination of the project.

  • Proactive co-ordination within other programme stakeholders, consultants and contractors to manage overall project and programme interfaces to deliver project efficiently. 

  • Liaison with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure that requirements are identified, assessed, and appropriately integrated into the project.

  • Working with the client and reporting to the project lead responsible for helping to establish the strategy and delivery for the project.

  • Assisting in developing the client’s brief, delivery strategy and leading the design management, procurement and execution of the scheme.

  • Understanding of the design process throughout all stages of the project lifecycle and able to manage outputs and technical aspects as they arise. 

  • Producing strategic project programme and have the ability to scrutinise and integrate programmes from consultants and contractors.

  • Understanding of risk management and able to work with project teams to identify, schedule and establish mitigation strategy for project risks.

  • Coordinating, planning and managing internal and external meetings in relation to the project.

  • Driving the procurement of services and works required to deliver the project, including site surveys.

  • Understanding of budgets, estimates and ability to review and challenge contractors’ proposals.

  • Providing input into client system safety and project risk assessment and management process.

  • Leading management of contract suppliers under the NEC4 suite of contract, from design and manufacture to delivery and final account. 

  • Managing pre-contract design development and post-contract scope changes in an efficient manner.

  • You’ll need to have:

  • Proven experience in project management, managing small to medium sized projects. 

  • Developed communication, presentation and project planning and development skills. 

  • Developed budgetary oversight expertise. 

  • Advanced proficiency in communicating, coordinating activities and collaborating with stakeholders. 

  • Proven understanding of project management methodologies and practices. 

  • Display strong communication and negotiation skills to support the client/customer focus. 

  • Proactively manage internal budgets and fees, delivering agreed outcomes.

  • Proficient knowledge and expertise in specific industry/sector/market of project/role. 

  • Relevant technical qualification/certification for project portfolio/s. 

  • Sound technical expertise in health and safety executive (HSE) rules and specific sector/market regulations relevant to project portfolio. 

  • Knowledge of relevant industry/sector/markets and an understanding of required specialism/s. 

  • Knowledge of consultancy, construction, infrastructure and property sectors / markets and an understanding of estimating, scheduling, contracts administration, procurement, commercial controls and reporting.

  • Problem solving and analytical skills for resolving planning, estimating, contract administration and procurement issues within construction and design activities.

  • Partners with others providing day to day project leadership to achieve deliverables. 

  • May manage small teams providing guidance, direction, coaching and coordination for team. 

  • Acts as central point of contact for project portfolio for relevant stakeholders, internal and externally. 

  • Provides support and develops the project team sharing knowledge to upskill others. 

  • Mentors and develops the project team; provides a safe work environment to learn and mature. 

  • Mentors and develops individuals, sharing knowledge and experience. 

  • Champions and operates within an inclusivity environment.
