Introduction:Hays are delighted to be working in partnership with Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council on the recruitment of a permanent Principal Planning Policy Officer. Whilst some public sector experience is essential, the council will wee those looking to make the switch from the private sector too.

The opportunity:
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Planning professional to take on a prominent role within their Planning Policy team.

The council is proud of their track record in planning and development and were one of the very first local authorities to adopt its Local Development Framework, which has helped deliver some major projects, including the newmunity at Kings Hill and other strategic development schemes that have seen them at the head of the field in the provision of quality new housing growth.

The council have been successful in bringing forward some challenging brownfield sites and now our focus is on sustaining growth to meet identified needs for the next twenty years in the emerging Local Plan. There are demanding times toe – balancing growth and constraints in the new Local Plan; sustaining local economic growth; providing housing that is truly affordable; fostering their important rural economy; working with localmunities where disadvantage exists in an otherwise affluent place; help making the best of their excellent education facilities in the Borough; working in an environment where pressures on infrastructure are growing and planning around the concerns of flooding - just to list a few of the council's current challenges.

The Borough is partly Green Belt and AONB with a diverse range of towns, villages and countryside. In Tonbridge, they have a town centre with major improvement opportunities. The Borough offers a breadth of experience for the professional planner found in few other places, being both a place of high business growth and traditional agricultural characteristics of the Garden of England.

Your role will involve making a notable contribution towards the Local Plan development. You will likely be a Member of the RTPI and have experience of development plan preparation. Those with experience in housing related matters are of particular interest for the position.
