Hull City Council are excited to recruit to the position of Principal Finance Officer, this opportunity has arisen due to internal promotion, and we are delighted to welcome an ambitious, skilled accounting professional to the Corporate Finance Team. This permanent position is well suited to an individual that is looking to advance their career in accountancy and gain hands on experience in a busy public sector environment.

We are looking for someone with a strong accounting knowledge, the ability to interpret and analyse complex data, a robust understanding of financial processes and procedures, and the ability to undertake financial modelling, build budgets and monitor forecasts, all of which are needed to provide support, advice, and guidance to Council services. The financial management team support all key Council services, one of which you will support personal, we strive to ensure cross divisional knowledge sharing and job rotation and the service you support may change, this will support your career growth and personal development within the corporate finance team.

The successful applicant will possess strong communication and analytical skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a wider team. This role will involve management of staff; strong leadership and management skills are therefore essential.

This position:

  • Works alongside other finance staff and colleagues from other services to provide coordinated customer focused support to deliver the objectives and priorities of each Directorate. 
  • Manages and provides financial input to the business strategy for Assistant Directors in line with Service plans.
  • Leads the provision of financial support and guidance to Assistant Directors and their staff to ensure statutory requirements for financial management and accountability are met.
  • Helps to ensure projects are delivered in line with financial regulations and deliver value for money for the Council. 
  • Identifies strategic financial opportunities through funding regimes or partnership arrangements to deliver services differently to secure improved value for money.
  •  There are a number of flexible workforce options available including home working and flexible working hours.

    Qualification requirements for this post – CIPFA, ACCA or equivalent.
