Post: Policy & Improvement Officer, respectme , Scotland’s Anti-Bullying Service

Location: Travel across Scotland as required

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week

Salary: £30, – £35, per annum (salary point 28–33)

Contract: Fixed Term for 2 years

About the Role

respectme, Scotland’s Anti-Bullying Service is delivering the national roll-out of the exciting and innovative ‘respectme reward’ programme, which seeks to recognise, share and celebrate good anti-bullying policy and practice.

We are looking to recruit a new team member to the role of Policy and Improvement Officer to play a key part in this work which will involve influencing improvement in anti-bullying policy and practice in education and youth settings across Scotland. Through application of improvement methodology, self-assessment frameworks and behaviour change approaches, the post holder will work alongside key stakeholders to benchmark progress, validate outcomes and develop recommendations for improvement.

The post holder will apply evidence and experience from stakeholders to advance policy and practice and further progress the anti-bullying agenda in Scotland. The role will involve working alongside key national and local partners, advising and supporting them in embedding effective anti-bullying policy and practice, supporting them to trial new approaches to addressing bullying, and developing new resources for a range of audiences. The post holder will be skilled in developing positive and constructive relationships with stakeholders in order to take on a ‘critical friend’ role, where a respectful balance of support and challenge is an essential characteristic.

What we are looking for

Some key responsibilities include;

1. Work with the Service Director to drive and support implementation of Scottish Government national guidance, ‘Respect for All’, across Scotland.

2. Work with the Service Director to develop and deliver a robust work plan that will support the ongoing roll-out of the respectme reward programme.

3. Embed the implementation of recommendations made in the ‘Gaining Momentum’ external evaluation report.

4. Develop and maintain effective and efficient working relationships with key stakeholders and provide a key point of contact and tailored support for these organisations throughout their involvement with respectme.

5. Deliver capacity building activities where required and develop guidance, resources and tools to enable others to progress action on anti-bullying.

6. Build relationships with participants and key stakeholders and provide a key point of contact and tailored support for these organisations throughout their involvement in the programme.

7. Building on sound evidence of what works in relation to anti-bullying, support participating organisations to assess the impact of their anti-bullying work and influence improvement in local and national policy and practice.

8. Through analysis of a range of qualitative and quantitative data sets, develop bespoke conclusions and recommendations to inform improvement plans.

9. Identify and create case studies and exemplars of effective anti-bullying practice.

Qualifications

SAMH values and recognises specialist skills & experience gained outside of education to be just as valuable as a degree. In this post, we’re looking for someone with relevant experience in the sector, or a qualification in politics, social policy or other relevant discipline (essential).
