The People Advisor is a key role in the People and Culture (P&C) team which covers all activity relating to the provision of advice and guidance relating to the delivery of a professional operational service. The People Advisor plays a key role to: Support in the delivery of a professional, proactive, efficient people service, to include employee relations, employment legislation, HRIS, recruitment and retention, change management, advice on terms and conditions of employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide advice and support to managers on all aspects of employee relations issues and processes, including discipline, sickness absence, diversity issues, capability, grievance, and performance management, providing solution focused advice in line with current best practice, employment legislation to enable managers to achieve their business and staffing objectives
  • Collating and analysing information, producing reports to contribute to decision making, the development and managerial insight and monitoring of performance on ER cases or matters
  • Generating reports to support data requests from the business including balance scorecard, dashboards and EDI steering group
  • Manage recruitment and selection campaigns through the entire process from job advert to induction. Ensure recruitment and selection and retention of the most suitable candidates
  • Ensure compliance with all onboarding requirements and support the audit process for payroll and the people department interface, new starters and leavers and DBS audits
  • To work with L& D Manager to support the design and delivery of learning and development activities including staff and management development training or procurement of training
  • To contribute feedback from service activities to enable input to the People strategy which supports Octavia’s corporate and business objectives. Partnering with managers on People actions necessary to achieve business objectives
  • Supporting key people projects that support the delivery of the employee lifecycle and people strategy including; recruitment and resourcing, onboarding, reward, performance management, organisational development including change management, TUPE, reorganisation and employee engagement
  • Undertake research and develop and implement new policies and procedures in response to changes in employment legislation. Draft policies and make proposals and recommendations on new policies, or revisions to existing policy and practice
  • Keep abreast of best practice, legislative changes and new developments to continuously develop and improve knowledge and skills and broaden the understanding of inter-relationships between the range of human resources activities and departments
  • Pro-actively contribute to the development and growth mindset of the People & Culture team to improve, progress, and modernise our way of way of working. Creating an environment for our team and organisation to thrive
  • And undertake any other tasks as assigned by management
  • Requirements

    For this position, we have listed the requirements we believe are essential for this role:

    Experience/Qualifications

  • HR experience in a generalist HR advisory capacity
  • CIPD Part qualified
  • Experience in assisting on change projects and restructures/ re-organisations and TUPE (Desirable)
  • Experience of advising Managers and Heads of Service
  • Knowledge

  • Clear, accurate and up to date knowledge of employment legislation
  • Sound knowledge of HR Best practice
  • Knowledge of staff engagement and conflict resolution
  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant employment processes and practices
  • Skills

  • Strong verbal, written and numerical communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise and busy workload
  • Numerical and analytical skills
  • IT Literate in use of HR databases, excel and word
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a range of staff and senior managers

    The salary for this role is £40,000 per annum with up to 10% pension contributions.
