Job Details

Our international firm client’s team specialising in dispute resolution and international arbitration in the offshore energy sector are based in Surrey, but undertake City quality work. Clients include international energy companies, offshore service contractors, engineering and infrastructure companies and consultants, and a wide range of companies servicing the sector. As well as traditional energy disputes, they have a particular focus on offshore wind, carbon capture, biofuels and other energy transition work.

Matters the team has worked on recently include:

  • Multi-jurisdictional proceedings, in a Paris-seated UNCITRAL arbitration, overturning a French commercial court injunction, English High Court and Court of Appeal judgments.
  • Disputes arising out of charterparties for offshore construction contracts in South East Asia and Australia.
  • High value arbitration relating to resources in South America and East Africa, and exploration activities offshore West Africa.
  • Acting in a major dispute relating to the supply of a rig, and ultimately the termination of a drilling contract (where systems failures endangered life).
  • Representing offshore contractors and advising on decommissioning security liabilities.
  • Advising and representing parties in connection with the construction of offshore windfarms.
  • Bespoke drafting of charterparties for offshore supply and construction.
  • They are now looking for a Lawyer to join the team. In order to be considered for this role, you will:

  • Have a strong academic background, and be a bright “go-getter”.
  • Be a technically strong and well-trained disputes Lawyer, probably with up to 3 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Have experience (either contentious or non-contentious) of energy, renewables, shipping or construction is not required, but would be very beneficial.
  • Be ambitious, self-motivated and hard-working.
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team or as an individual contributor, and will be a strong communicator.
  • Have interest in and the confidence to develop relationships with clients– progression prospects are very real for the right candidate in this team.
  • Specific energy sector (traditional or renewables) experience is not required, but would be beneficial.

This is a sensational opportunity to join a world leader, away from the rat race of London.
