  • The purpose of this job is to protect and promote the Mace brand by managing Mace’s Group’s media engagement, press, public relations, and crisis management approach. The is responsible for development and delivery of the media strategy for the Group, as well as ownership and performance management of Mace’s media activity. The lead will work with other media professionals in the Consult and Construct engines and will coordinate activity across the Group to ensure consistency and clarity of message.

    Responsible for developing, planning and project managing their own integrated strategies, projects, and campaigns. The lead will set the media policy, processes and standards for other media professionals to adhere to. They will also manage the media grid, coordinate incoming enquiries, and manage the media line. They will be accountable for media reporting across the Group. The lead will also take editorial oversight of the Group’s social media channels, working alongside the social media manager. 

    You’ll be responsible for:

  • Supports the delivery of external communications strategy by taking the lead for all media activity.

  • Develops and delivers the media strategy working alongside the PR representatives for our Consult and Construct Engines.

  • Responsible for editorial oversight across our social media channels, working with the social media manager who is responsible for channel development.

  • Responsible for managing the Group’s crisis communications and coordination of reputation management, with overall editorial control of responses to media enquiries.

  • Supports the Engine media teams on reputation management and media enquiries where relevant.

  • Proactively identifies and secures major national, international and broadcast opportunities for the Group.

  • Leads incoming media enquiries, assigns to Engine leads where appropriate, drafts responses and ensures appropriate sign off with relevant stakeholders.

  • Produces engaging thought leadership content that tackles industry challenges, responds to opportunities, and positions the brand in line with its purpose and priorities.

  • Proactively builds relationships with national, international and trade journalists.

  • Builds and manages the media processes, policies and standards and works with the Engine teams to ensure these are adhered to.

  • Manages incoming enquiries and works with the Engines to respond in the appropriate way.

  • Responsible for the media grid across the Group and Engines

  • Responsible for the creation, testing and execution of the marketing and communications team’s crisis communications strategy.

  • Establishes and builds relationships with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders.

  • Contributes to the achievement of objectives in the marketing and communications strategy.

  • Supports the broader communications team with BAU output and activity.

  • Continuously measures engagement and success of outputs, regularly reviewing and refining your approach as part of a return on investment (ROI) culture. Manages & influences Key/Senior stakeholders. 

  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement plans/identifies key business improvements. 

  • Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

  • You’ll need to have:

  • Significant experience of successfully pitching to national and trade media.

  • Experience of developing media briefings for senior leaders and supporting them to prepare for live and recorded interviews.

  • Experience developing and delivering media strategies and developing crisis communications plans.

  • Familiarity of media monitoring and reporting and managing social media platforms and support systems (e.g. Hootsuite).

  • Ability to develop social media strategies and highly engaging social media campaigns for different audience groups.

  • Experience of adopting a corporate writing style with minimal supervision.

  • High-level of creative writing experience for different channels and audiences.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Listens, clarifies to check understanding. Uses the most appropriate method, language, medium and style of communication for the situation and people involved.

  • Involves and facilitates others to solve problems.

  • Interprets complex information in easy-to-understand messaging.

  • Working knowledge of the construction and consultancy industry.

  • Understanding of project management techniques.
