    Job Description

    Materials Engineer Role Responsibilities:

  • Innovate in Material Science: Spearhead the development of advanced materials in copper, stainless steel, and aluminium powder. Lead in Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing, setting new benchmarks.

  • Design Authority: Shape the future of ABB's products as the key designer. Influence sustainability and efficiency with your decisions.

  • Enhance Performance: Oversee material performance evaluation and improvement initiatives. Elevate product quality and durability through your expertise.

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Join forces with R&D and manufacturing to introduce cutting-edge materials and processes. Your role is pivotal in maintaining ABB's innovative edge.

  • Creative Problem-Solving: Address technical challenges through material redesign or alternative raw material sourcing. Your solutions will set new industry standards.

  • Lead Research and Testing: Partner with labs for material and product performance validation. Analyse data and develop new test methods to inform material decisions.

  • Global Strategy Support: Assist the sourcing team in global procurement strategies, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness of materials.

  • The Successful Applicant

    Ideal Candidate:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Industry Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in material science or engineering, with a focus on metals and plastics.

  • Specialised Knowledge: Proficiency in copper, stainless steel, and aluminium powder. An understanding of conductive alloys selection, including coating and finishing.

  • Supplier Evaluation Skills: Experience in evaluating and selecting potential suppliers, ensuring quality and reliability.

  • Manufacturing Process Insight: Familiarity with metals and plastic manufacturing processes, contributing to efficient and innovative production methods.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Awareness of technical regulations such as UL, CSA, IEC, and CCC. Additional knowledge in these areas is desirable.

  • Technical Proficiency: Interest and expertise in powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing are highly desirable.

  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of tackling complex technical challenges.

  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a collaborative work environment.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, essential for team collaboration and reporting. ️
