An exciting opportunity for a Lead waiting List Co-Ordinator in Trauma & Orthopaedics has risen to cover maternity leave within our team, which is based at County Hall in Taunton!
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the co-ordination and organisation of a comprehensive patient centred admission service ensuring continuity in achieving excellence in patient care within local and national time frames.
You will make decisions which will lead to good booking practice and the provision of an excellent support mechanism for both patients and clinical will support and supervise lower band members of the Admissions Team to ensure admissions processes are followed and that waiting lists and theatre lists are managed efficiently and effectively.

Job descriptionJob responsibilities
Schedule patients into appropriate theatre lists, ensuring the surgeons requirements are followed, hospital systems are checked for essential booking information, there is a suitable anaesthetist, all equipment will be present and available, any special bed requests are ordered and the order of the theatre list is suitable for the surgeon, along with managing the patients social needs and availability.
Plan own workload plus lower band staff so patients are called for admission according to length of wait and clinical priority within operating theatre / resource constraints.
Fill vacant theatre slots at very short notice due to cancellations.
Report forthcoming capacity issues due to Consultants annual leave dates etc with Team Leader/Admissions Manager to enable a discussion and escalation as appropriate to be made.
Using knowledge of surgeons waiting lists and waiting times liaise with Service Managers (SMs) to arrange for changes to Consultants timetable/theatre sessions to ensure the most appropriate surgeon has sufficient operating time in the most suitable theatre.
Most Waiting List Co-ordinators work single-handedly so planning ahead for annual leave is essential to ensure the service runs smoothly during times of limited cover.
Where required attend specialty meetings and write up specialty updates for distribution.
Create theatre diaries from Theatre Schedules/Consultant diaries ensuring theatre location and timings match.
Population and management of specialty Patient Target Lists to reflect accurately the full specialty waiting list, Referral To Treat (RTT) data, and essential booking information with updates made real time.
