Kitchen Assistant (Prep & Serve) – Maternity cover

20 hours per week

Bere Regis Primary and Pre-School has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and friendly Kitchen Assistant to join our lunchtime team. This post is for a maternity cover, beginning ASAP and running until our existing staff member returns to post. You will work for 4 hrs each day across the lunch period (currently 9.30am – 1.30pm). You will be responsible for the cooking of pre-prepared hot school meals, the preparation of accompaniments to the main meals and the serving of those meals to pupils during the lunch break. You will also be responsible for the setting up and clearing away of the school hall before and after the lunch service and maintaining the cleanliness of the school kitchen.

The successful applicant will:

  • have some experience of working in a school or commercial kitchen.
  • possess a knowledge of food safety legislation and an ability to maintain a clean and hygienic environment (additional training will be given)
  • have experience of working with children
  • be self-motivated and committed
  • be flexible and adaptable in the way they work
  • be willing to work additional hours if needed.
  • We are a small rural school, located in one of the most picturesque parts of the country, with close to 120 pupils on roll. Our school is spacious, fully equipped and with a large outdoor area. We are a close-knit team of staff and enjoy brilliant support from our community. The children are keen to learn and behave very well.

    The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.

    This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process

    This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account.     Keeping Children Safe in Education

    The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
