Ward Administrator for Intensive Care Unit

Cromwell Hospital, London SW5 0TU

Permanent

Up to £26,000 depending on experience + fantastic benefits

Full time – 37.5hrs (Shifts are 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday)

Role Overview

You will provide high quality administrative and clerical support to the nursing and medical staff. You’ll be responsible for the management of patient information and to ensure accurate data quality and assist nursing staff with discharge coordination. You’ll provide a full and professional front of house service for patients, visitors and staff ensuring they are informed appropriately.

What you’ll do:

  • To welcome and provide a full front of house service to patients and their relatives/visitors onto the ward, ensuring that security and infection control measures that are in place are adhered to.
  • To answer ward telephone enquires promptly, efficiently and politely, resolving local issues and referring on to other relevant staff as appropriate. To understand the sensitivity of such calls. To ensure that messages to staff are passed on either by e-mail or written note.
  • To ensure that all clinical referrals are forwarded to the relevant internal department and/or external agencies.
  • To Co-ordinate the transfer of patients to another care setting (ward environment). This involves liaising with porters and ensuring the relevant documentation is completed by clinical team prior to discharge.
  • To ensure that the reception desk and waiting areas are maintained in a presentable manner.
  • To observe and maintain the confidentiality of patient records and staff information.
  • To request porters to transfer patients to and from the ward as directed.
  • To book diagnostic tests and scans for patients as directed by clinical teams.
  • To liaise with Catering regarding missing meals and collection of trays.
  • To liaise regularly with Reservation and the Accounts Department to ensure a smooth flow of admissions, correct level of care is allocated in Compucare and length of stay extended as required.
  • To assist in providing information obtaining cover on all sponsored cases, updating the Compucare records, referring and following up on queries as necessary.
  • To ensure costs are entered correctly and patients charged accordingly using the hospital system.
  • To co-ordinate bookings for procedures with various internal and external hospital departments.
  • What you’ll bring:

  • Experience of working in a public/patient facing role
  • Previous work experience in a healthcare setting – Desirable
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use initiative and problem solve, in a busy clinical environment
  • Typing and data entry skills
  • Good level of computer literacy skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and databases
  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the service
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Dedicated with passion for delivering exceptional care with high levels of professionalism and enthusiasm.
