Position : Housekeeper/Kitchen Cover

Salary : From £24,865 (dependent on qualification/s and experience)

Hours: Full time / Permanent / Mon-Fri / 40 hours

Location: Edinburgh

Would you like to have Holyrood Park as a space to extend outdoor learning with the children? We would like to invite you to join our team at Bright Horizons Elsie Inglis situated centrally in the heart of Edinburgh. We are looking for a Full Time Housekeeper to join our team, who will also cover in the kitchen when needed. Preferably with experience of working in a Nursery or Care Home

The nursery is a 65 place setting located in a single-storey building in the former Elsie Inglis Memorial Maternity Hospital, backing onto Holyrood Park in central Edinburgh.

The nursery is a short 10 minute walk from Waverley Station, with local bus routes also nearby. There is also parking on site.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

To provide housekeeping service which creates a clean and orderly environment for our families and staff that will become a critical factor in maintaining and strengthening our reputation. This role requires working in collaboration with others and taking responsibility for working in line with regulatory requirements and BH policies and procedures

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep the Nursery a clean and safe environment for the children, staff and families
  • Encourage and model behaviour which is appropriate in a child environment being professional at all times adhering to our Heart Principles
  • To maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene of the children’s bathroom and nappy change areas throughout the day 
  • To carry out daily laundry duties as required
  • To respond appropriately to issues requiring confidentiality: for example being aware of personal information regarding children
  • Support, promote and implement policies and procedures
  • Work in co-operation and partnership with the Nursery team, providing high standards of cleaning to ensure the smooth running of the nursery day 
  • Be prepared to help where needed, including undertaking of certain domestic tasks within the nursery e.g. supporting over meal times and cleaning of equipment 
  • Ensuring products and materials are appropriate for a nursery environment and stored and used in line with COSHH guidelines.
  • To take reasonable care of yourself and others and to comply with company Health and Safety guidelines whilst understanding the importance of keeping everyone safe and the part you play. 
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach using your initiative and showing resilience to take responsibility for getting things done
  • EXPERIENCE (DESIRABLE): 

  • Experience of working within the cleaning industry
  • Experience of using cleaning products and equipment 
  • KNOWLEDGE (DESIRABLE):

  • Sound knowledge of COSHH
  • Understanding of Health & Safety requirements 
  • SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES (ESSENTIAL):

  • Sufficient understanding and use of English to ensure the well-being of the children, for example you must be able to summon emergency help and to understand instructions, to ensure our compliance
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • High standards of cleanliness and hygiene practices
  • QUALIFICATIONS DESIRABLE:

  • Food Safety CIEH L2 or above or equivalent - this must be passed on day 1 in post (*Chef qualification*)
