Main Purpose of the Job

The Norwich Bioscience Institutes Partnership (NBIP) has an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Advisor to join their busy Health, Safety and Quality Assurance department.

The main duties of the role will include providing health and safety support to the NBI institutes by reviewing and updating health and safety documentation; providing advice and guidance on health and safety matters including biological and chemical safety and responding to emergency incidents when required. The post holder will support the head of HSEQA and their team with the smooth operational of the health and safety management system and its associated processes.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated, enjoy working in a team and be a role model, they will promote and encourage a healthy and safe working environment in line with legislation and best practice.

HSEQA is a friendly and supportive team, we are seeking for a highly motivated individual to support the team. The role could be expanded depending on the individual motivation.

Key Relationships

The position will report to the Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Assurance (HSEQA). The post holder will work closely with other HSEQA team members, EI, JIC, TSL and QIB Lab Managers and NBIP Facilities team to contribute to the delivery of a first-class Health and safety on site.

Main Activities & Responsibilities

Percentage Prepare and update Health and Safety documentation and upload on intranet database such as risk assessments and safe working procedures (i.e Standard Operating Procedures).30Provide general H&S support (including on biological and chemical safety matter).20Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses and provide high standard report.20Support the Head of H&S with the daily administrative running of the occupational health clinics when required.5Participate in laboratory audits and inspections.5Contribute to safety improvement projects on site.5Provide H&S support to Head of HSEQA in relation to NGI project when required.5Respond to emergency incidents when required.5As agreed with the line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the post.5

NBI Partnership

The NBI Partnership provides non-scientific services to the John Innes Centre (JIC), Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), Earlham Institute (EI) and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). All of these organisations carry out scientific research funded by the UK Government, European Union, Charitable and Industrial Sponsors. The Partnership employs around 140 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1100 Research Staff, Students and Visiting Scientists who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.
