Head of UX/UI

Believ: ABOUT US

At Believ, formerly known as Liberty Charge, we believe sustainable transport should be accessible to everyone. We’re a Charge Point Operator (CPO) on a mission to create the UK’s most reliable electric vehicle charging network that doesn’t cost the earth and leaves no one behind.

We work closely with local authorities and businesses to deliver reliable, high quality charging networks at pace, at scale and at zero cost.

We offer all the advantages of being a scale-up business, but with the added security and long-term backing from well-known parents - Liberty Global (who also own our delivery partner, Virgin Media O2) and Zouk Capital (who manage the Government’s Charging Investment Infrastructure Fund).

You’ll be joining this exciting journey at the start of our scale-up phase, and work with us to hit the ambitious targets our shareholders have set. You’ll become part of a passionate and supportive team in a fast-paced, dynamic and result-driven environment.

About the role

We are seeking a creative and experienced Head of UX/UI to lead our user experience and interface design efforts as we seek to move from a predominantly SaaS model to an in-house, fully owned and managed technology ecosystem. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), this role will be responsible for defining and implementing a user-centric design strategy, creating intuitive and visually compelling interfaces, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional user experiences across our products and platforms. Initially, you will be the sole designer responsible for all UX & UI across both internal and externally facing mobile and web applications, however there is scope for the successful applicant to hire and grow a team to meet the demands of the wider business as we scale.

With a focus on user centric development and design you will be expected to collaborate closely with the CTO, Head of Engineering and wider business to ensure that we are developing and implementing initiatives and innovations that put our customers first whilst delivering frictionless, seamless and engaging user experiences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a comprehensive UX/UI design strategy, incorporating user research, industry best practices, and business goals to drive the evolution of our product user experiences.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for web and mobile applications, incorporating user-centered design principles, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and other stakeholders to understand user needs, define product requirements, and translate them into intuitive and visually appealing design solutions.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to gather insights and validate design decisions, iteratively refining and improving our products based on user feedback and behavior.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of design systems, pattern libraries, and style guides to ensure consistency and scalability across our products and platforms.
  • Stay informed about emerging design trends, technologies, and best practices, and advocate for their adoption to enhance our design capabilities and deliver innovative user experiences.
  • Define and implement design processes and methodologies, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality in all aspects of the design lifecycle, from ideation to implementation.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, contractors, and partners as needed to augment design resources and capabilities, ensuring alignment with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers, providing guidance, support, and feedback to foster a collaborative and high-performing design culture.
  • About you

At Believ, we are building a culture that attracts and retains the best talent.
