Our client, based in Devon, is currently recruiting for a Food and Safety Officer (EHO) on a 3 month temporary contract.

The position is due to start on Monday 1st July 2024 on a full-time basis. The hourly rate is £54.99 via umbrella or £43.69 PAYE for this position.

The ideal candidate will be food safety competent with reference to Chapter 3.4 of the Food Law Code of Practice and hold a food hygiene enforcement qualification. They will also have experience using Merlin software and access to their own vehicle.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Undertaking food safety inspections / health & safety inspections
  • Initiating remedial action including (where authorised to do so) the issue of informal and statutory notices and the attendance at Court when required
  • Participating in the ‘Safer food Service’ with the provision of charged for advice to food businesses
  • Ensuring the timely and thorough investigation of all complaints allocated
  • Investigating incidents, accidents and infectious disease outbreaks to establish the cause and prevent further cases
  • Maintaining efficient and effective work performance in accordance with agreed policies and objectives
  • Carrying out some reactive work but mostly inspecting C & D’s
  • Inputting work on a mobile solution using Merlin software on a tablet for report writing and auto database backfill
  • Experience required:

  • Experience required in Food Safety
  • Inspector will need to provide PPE and food probe/IRT thermometer
  • Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Need to be food safety competent with reference to Chapter 3.4 of the Food Law Code of Practice
  • Hold a ‘suitable qualification’ requirement for food hygiene enforcement, one of;Higher Certificate in Food Control awarded by the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or CIEHHigher Certificate in Official Control awarded by the Scottish Food Safety OfficersRegistration Board (SFSORB)A Certificate of Registration awarded by the EHRB to practice as an Environmental Health PractitionerA Diploma in Environmental Health awarded by the EHRB or theREHISAdvanced Professional Certificate in Food Hygiene and Standards Control (APC) awarded by CIEHDegree in Environmental HealthMasters Degree in Environmental HealthEnvironmental Health Practitioner (Integrated Degree) Apprenticeship
  • Compliance and due diligence
  • Working hours:

  • 37 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
  • No working from home available
