Job Details

The Engineering Managers role is to ensure departmental support is continuously provided to the site production department, in order to achieve a sustained improvement in fixed plant availability, whilst assisting the production team in attaining a targeted co-efficient &" best in class" status.

Position may/will require a certain quota of unsocial hours relating to call outs inclusive of, shutdowns and weekends (This worked time will be compensated with time in lieu at an agreed mutual time).

The position is to be measured through achieving agreed safety, environmental, and other operational performance levels, whilst constantly seeking improvements for sustained business efficiencies.

The primary activity of the role involves leading and directing the mechanical and electrical team, to achieve agreed performance objectives.

The performance emphasis for this unit includes;

Sustainability

  • In conjunction with Quarry & Logistics Managers manage the Engineering activities to the highest level of health and safety objectives in line with Heidelberg materials 's Health and Safety Plan. Communicate and assist the site to implement an action a plan of continuous improvement in this area. Manage Entropy actions, H&S conversations, Near Hits, Risk Assessments, Methods of Works, Permissions to Proceed, Stores and other activities commensurate with the department including, AOM, IES (or similar replacement). Ensure a system to manage and interrogate both major mobile and static breakdowns & downtime events are investigated, to ensure maximum learns and future avoidance of repeats.

Asset Management

  • Maintain and improve asset coefficients utilising project management, Capex applications and S&R funding.

KPI Delivery

  • Availability & Coefficient improvement from c80% to sustained 90%+

Environmental

  • Operating to the highest level of environmental objectives in line with Heidelberg materials 's Environmental Management Plan. Communicate and assist the site to action a plan of continuous improvement in this area.

Compliance

  • Ensure all statutory legislation and company regulations are adhered to with respect to all operational activities.

Operations

  • Achieve optimum production levels in line with commercial activity at the lowest operation cost. Continually communicate operational improvements to improve efficiency with the production functions.

Quality

  • Consult with the technical function to ensure operational procedures are such that the highest quality levels are achieved at the most efficient operational cost.

Business Analysis

  • Working with the Operations Team to ensure all operational management information is accurate, relevant and is used effectively to assist in the management of the business and the progression of all profit enhancing opportunities.

In order for the day to day activities outlined above to operate effectively, the roles also involves a number of wider aspects, including;

CLIMB

  • Assist to ensure that CLIMB targets for continual business improvement at Whatley are understood by your team and a culture of continual improvement is in place, adopted and sustained.

Site & Global KPI's

  • Assist site management with collating accurate data to allow HeidelbergCement Global KPI's to be generated with benchmarking data. This requires the review/introduction of site maintenance KPI's which specifically relates to downtime events and management.

Resource Planning

  • Ensure your site teams are adequately resourced, supervised and that personnel are trained, coached and developed correctly to ensure full competence. It is fully expected that scheduled maintenance shutdowns or weekends are communicated, planned & agreed with the operations management.

Asset Management

  • Ensure systems are in place to follow procedures and maintained to improve production and commercial volumes. Activities must recognise pit balances and Agg-Flow techniques and management.

Plant Preventative Maintenance Planning

  • Ascertain the effectiveness of the existing computerised PPM system. Ensure it that the computerised preventative maintenance system is installed /utilised to deliver the KPI performance targets through prioritisation and communication of maintenance tasks.

Project Management

  • Fully scope, cost, present and manage plant improvements and replacements of assets to completion. Site management will collaborate to aid Capex proposals within hazop and project meetings.

Inventory Management

  • Ensure consignment/engineering stocks controls are managed effectively and reflects budgets and forecasts.

Human Resources

  • Implement effective controls to cover all relevant activities of the department (inclusive of Employee Management, Shift Patterns, Working Hours Directive and possible contract amendments).
