We are seeking a Cleaning Services Supervisor to monitor and ensure the high outcomes and standards of the building cleaning and window cleaning services at the sites defined, forging strong relationships with the premises representatives.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will manage a team of operatives, ensuring the provision of high quality, safe and hygienic cleaning and window cleaning services at our sites. You will co-ordinate team activities and allocate work fairly across the team to best utilise staff skills and knowledge and individual potential. The postholder will devise and manage procedures to maintain adequate service provision, including staff, resources, equipment and finance. The postholder will maintain Health & Safety policies and guidelines for the site and ensure compliance by all staff and visitors within the premises. 

You will be an experienced supervisor, with the ability to deliver a high quality, effective and efficient cleaning service in line with Health and Safety legislation. This role requires a clean, valid driving license.

Working for our organisation

This is a part time, 14 hour per week role, working as part of a job share.

You will be part of the Building Cleaning team, who manage the cleaning services in approximately 80 Islington sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To supervise the provision of high quality, safe and hygienic cleaning and window cleaning services at all the sites defined by the Council to the requirements of the Service Level Agreement adhering to security requirements at all times.

To manage and implement systems to deal with all quality maintenance matters, liaising with senior management as appropriate, including adherence to financial, spend/income monitoring and procurement matters.

To supervise and co-ordinate team activities, allocating work fairly across the team in a way that best utilises staff skills and knowledge and recognises individual potential. You will learn and utilise all Council computer systems as required, including new technology.

To hold regular meetings with staff for planning, review, standards, (personal and services) training and encouragement purposes.

To set-up, implement and maintain adequate procedures and cover arrangements to maintain the service provisions requirements including sufficiency of staff, working equipment (monitoring, arranging ordering/repairs as appropriate) and finance.

To travel to and from different sites, including working out of hours, to ensure effective quality control. You will adhere by the Council’s environmental travel practices. You will support ad hoc driving requirements of the Council if necessary.

To maintain adequate Health & Safety policies and guidelines for the site and to ensure compliance by all staff and visitors within the premises. To appoint fire marshals and first aiders and to manage any emergency evacuation process.

To carry out team and building related risk assessments, identifying any potential risk and introducing control measures or the removal of the risk by introducing alternatives.

To supervise and manage for yourself and others, including the ordering, issuing and maintaining of all chemicals, equipment and materials including uniform/protective clothing as necessary.

To assist in project work, advice, guidance and information to enquirers as directed or as necessary including support services in all emergencies.

To use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.

The ability and flexibility to work outside core hours.

To achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs, and personal appraisal targets, as set by and agreed with the line manager.

To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.

  • Ability to update, and maintain management, financial and administrative systems necessary for the delivery of cost effective, high quality services.
  • Ability to deliver a high quality, effective and efficient service.
  • Ability to deliver responsibility duties in line with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (both written and orally) and to present information / reports and advice clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to prioritise and work effectively under pressure and within tight schedules.
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
