About The Role Job Title: Director of Media and Corporate Communications
Job Location: UKO, London, Moorgate.
Salary: £, to £, per annum full-time.

Could you be our new Director of Media & Corporate Communications responsible for shaping and driving the external and internal voice and positioning of the British Red Cross, (BRC) through its earned, owned and internal channels? Could you be a key advisor to senior leaders on highly topical corporate communications risks and opportunities; and lead a large, geographically-spread team to respond quickly and confidently during times of crisis and emergency response?
What will a Director of Media and Corporate Communication's job involve?
  • Lead a highly responsive, integrated news and PR function which has sustained high reach and secures significant national media coverage that supports our organisational strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrate leadership on media and public relations handling in the event of a UK or international crisis ( emergency or disaster response), and achieve effective collaboration with colleagues within the British Red Cross, across the Red Cross Movement ( with the International Federation of the Red Cross & Red Crescent), and with others ( the Disasters Emergency Committee), as required.
  • Work with policy, research and advocacy colleagues to support delivery of overall influencing strategy and identify opportunities for original, evidence-based stories.
  • Maintain oversight and development of external messaging and narrative, in order to ensure that British Red Cross comment and opinion is picked up by influential external outlets.
  • Oversee the organisation’s internal communications content and channel management, driving continued high engagement with our people – staff and volunteers.
  • Lead the organisation’s communications on significant corporate issues, working across teams and with senior stakeholders.
  • Provide Executive Leadership Team (and Board of Trustees, as appropriate) with effective guidance on significant issues and ensure effective reputation management systems are in place to handle sensitive or controversial issues.
  • Ensure visibility and profile of key organisational leaders ( CEO), providing training and support as needed.
  • What will a Director of Media and Corporate Communications need to be successful?
  • Excellent working knowledge of the media and communications landscape.
  • Extensive experience of working as a communications specialist and leader in a large high profile organisation.
  • Leading the planning and implementation of media and PR plans for an organisation with diverse media/PR needs.
  • High level written, verbal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work well and calmly under pressure across all disciplines in a large and complex organisation.
  • Up to date knowledge of social media developments and best practice.
