The Focus of the Role:

We are looking for a Deputy Editor to join our content commerce team. In this role, you will be responsible for generating and curating ideas and content, focusing on reaching targets for reach and commerce content. You will be an expert and ambassador in cutting-edge website practices, effectively communicating with SEO teams and developers, and translating this for a non-technical team of writers.

You'll work closely with the Content Commerce Editor to deliver daily web content and manage the team and website in their absence. Growing the content commerce business in home and lifestyle and managing a team is crucial. You will stay updated on the latest in home and lifestyle trends and consumer needs, from new appliances and beauty trends to furniture and home décor.

This is a fixed-term contract based in Peterborough , with a hybrid work arrangement of two days per week in the office and the rest working from home.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilising your journalistic and industry experience, you will help the Commercial Content Editor to manage and develop members of the digital editorial team, including setting and monitoring team KPIs, attending regular 121 meetings and mentoring junior writers
  • Managing the day-to-day running of the website and team in the Commercial Content Editor’s absence
  • Supporting the editor with creating, planning and implementing the content strategy, drawing on expertise from around the business to ensure the subjects we cover are relevant and topical
  • Assisting the editor in managing freelance staff and contributors.
  • Creating and optimising high-quality and helpful home and lifestyle content that precisely meets the needs of our audience
  • Researching, planning and writing comprehensive product tests and buying guides according to editorial guidelines and in line with current SEO standards. This will include more complex and research-intensive topics and formats
  • Creating accompanying photographic material to provide our users with the best offers tailored to their needs
  • Customising content for various digital platforms, including email, considering the unique requirements and best practices for each
  • Attending relevant press events and product launches and supporting sales events like Prime Day and Black Friday
  • Working in close collaboration with the wider editorial team, audience development and SEO management

  • SEO Proficiency: Advanced understanding of SEO to ensure content ranks well.
  • Writing Experience: Extensive background in writing news articles, features, product tests, and reviews.
  • KPI Knowledge: Familiarity with content KPIs to evaluate performance.
  • Leadership Skills: Experience in people management with a collaborative mindset.
  • Data Fluency: Strong analytical skills to drive and improve content performance.
  • Communication: Exceptional writing and communication skills.
  • Photography Skills: Able to create clear and well-presented photography to support articles and appear in content if needed.
  • Self-Motivation: Excellent time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills with a hands-on approach.
  • Editorial Training: Completed senior editorial training, a traineeship, or a comparable qualification (desirable).
