We have a very exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Limb Reconstruction within the Musculoskeletal Care Group (MSK) at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. This is a Band 6 fixed term post which will progress to permanent Band 7 upon completion of a competency package and development programme. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within a clinic and ward environment and will have the responsibility to review pre- and post-operative patients undergoing limb reconstruction.

Please note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 6 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 7.

Where applicant/s are appointable at Band 6 this will be on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to this being a training programme and upon completion of necessary skills and/ or training will progress to Band 7 permanent post. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

  • Registered Nurse with NMC
  • Post registration at degree level or working towards
  • Current practice assessor or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of undergraduate or post graduate study with trauma and orthopaedics
  • Significant experience in specialism
  • Experience of managing own case load/ work load.
  • Ability to represent the department at meetings
  • Experience of caring for patients with external and internal fixations
  • Experience of pin site wound care and assessment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Information technology skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
  • Ability to deal sensitively with challenging situations
  • Accept responsibility and accountability for own work and define the responsibility of others
  • Work independently
  • Experience of working and liaising with the multidisciplinary team and the importance of this
