Description
The GCP Container Lead role is to develop the processes, standards and technical capability to allow HSBC enablement of the GKE Managed Service platform. The GCP Container Lead will own the engineering and operation of the platform in alignment with HSBC security and risk standards. The role will report to the GCP Platform Lead and be accountable for a globally distributed multi skilled team of DevOps engineers. The GCP Container Lead is accountable for all other aspects of people management for their team.
The GCP Container Lead will work in partnership with the GCP Service delivery lead to ensure that there is a robust support process in place, the GCP Product managers to create a continuous feedback loop for customer requirements, the Security and Operational compliance lead to ensure the platform meets the appropriate security and risk standards and the GCP Technical Architect for key design decisions to ensure strategy and architectural alignment.
The GCP Container Lead will be responsible for engaging with the wider Container ecosystem and associated owners with HSBC and driving consistent approaches to the management of containers across HSBC.

Responsibilities will include:
- Manage direct reports (Role definition, hiring, objective setting, performance reviews, performance ratings)
- Provide operational support for change activities
- Definition and refinement of the scope of support provided by the GCP team
- Management reporting against KPIs, SLAs and progress against key initiatives to ensure data driven discussions for continuous improvement
- Training and development of a globally distributed, highly technical team
- Ensure all non-functional requirements for the platform meet Business needs and BCP requirements
- Ensure the GKE Managed Service platform meets operational Risk framework to manage business risk
- Ensure all relevant a rchitecture g overnance, policy, and standards are met
- Represent the GKE Managed Service in discussions with internal IT partners and Google
- Maintain and manage all engineering information and knowledge bases for the GCP Platform and key implementation decisions
- Ensure compliancy with Operational risk standards (E.g. Network, Firewall, OS, Logging, Monitoring, Availability, Resiliency and Containers)
- Lead, manage, and represent related container programme projects across the bank (acting as de facto product owner, business analyst, etc
- Recognise and drive strategy/funding for cross-platform container initiatives
Requirements
Essential Skills
- Experience working as a technical operations manager or relevant equivalent
- Experience running a Container platform as a shared service in a large organisation
- People management (Objective setting, Performance review)
- Demonstrable knowledge of Risk Management in an enterprise level business along with knowledge of Non Functional requirements
- Experience dealing with IT Audit, Security and Risk
- Experience working in a global team in an enterprise
- Have experience managing stakeholders
- Have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Desirable Skills
- GCP/Kubernetes professional Certifications
- Technical knowledge (Directory Services, Google Identity, Physical Networking, Firewalls, SDN, XPN, Billing, Operating Systems, Containers, GCP Resource Hierarchy)
- Experience operating in highly regulated industry, e.g. Financial Services
- Automation scripting (using scripting languages such as Terraform, Python etc.)
- Experience of working with Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD) and continuous testing tools
- Experience of working with Kubernetes resource configuration tooling (Helm, Kustomize, kpt)
