We are excited to confirm that we are looking to recruit a Consultant in Rheumatology! Could this be the next opportunity you are looking for? We will support you with your CESR application if that is something you are working towards, so that you can go onto hopefully being appointed to a substantive post with the Trust.

The successful applicant will undertake 5 rheumatology clinics per week which will include General Rheumatology, Early Arthritis and GCA/ vasculitis clinics. The successful applicant will see rheumatology ward referrals, provide advice and guidance to primary care and support queries arising from the broader rheumatology team which include specialist nurses and other Allied Health Professionals.

Main duties of the job

Maintenance of high-quality patient centered care. Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning. Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service. Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity. Active participation in continuing medical education. Candidates should be competent in the management of Rheumatological disorders including inflammatory arthritis, soft tissue disorders and connective tissue diseases and in the management of biological therapies. There is scope to enhance this role with training opportunities in sub specialities, such as Ultrasound or involvement in research and future collaboration of services across primary and secondary care.

Person specification

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist
  • College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of experience in Rheumatology
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
