What is the job role?

The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service maintains a casual register of people with good language skills to work as bilingual education assistants in nurseries, primary schools and secondary schools across Coventry and the surrounding area, as well as with other Coventry City Council Departments. You will primarily be supporting newly arrived children to settle into school and begin to learn English.

This is a casual post. We anticipate there being a need for the languages listed, however, we cannot make any guarantee that work will be available.

Interviews are provisionally booked to take place on 12 July and/or 19 July , and will be conducted, in-person interviews in a City Council building in Coventry.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

You will need:

  • To be fluent and literate in one or more of the languages listed below
  • To have a good command of written and spoken English
  • To be willing to work in nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools across the city and attend ad hoc meetings
  • To be available for at least 4 mornings or 4 afternoons a week, or a mixture of both during normal school opening times
  • To be able to travel to schools and other education providers across the city
  • We currently need people who can communicate verbally and in writing in one or more of the following languages:

    Bengali, Czech, Igbo, Nepali, Pashto, Slovak, Sorani Kurdish
