- British Sign Language Teacher.
Due to the nature of the job, this post requires the post holder to be a Deaf person who is qualified to deliver British Sign Language Level 1 and level 2 training/courses.
We are looking for a person who has:
- A positive attitude and enthusiasm towards people learning BSL.
- A willingness to work within a team to high standards.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.

Job Title: British Sign Language Teacher
Accountable to: Chief Executive Officer
Salary Grade: £33.62 per hour including rolled holiday pay
Hours per week: 13 hours Monday – Friday
Holidays: 5.6 weeks per annum including Bank/Public Holidays.
Length of post: On a bank basis but regular hours will be required.
Purpose of the job:
In conjunction with the CEO, provide British Sign Language (BSL) lessons to staff and external students.
- BSL Level 1
- Two 2-hour lessons during office hours. Days/times to be agreed.
- One 3-hour lesson – evening class. Day/times to be agreed.
- BSL Level 2
- One 3-hour lesson during office hours. Day/times to be agreed.
- One 3-hour lesson – evening class. Day/times to be agreed.
- To uphold Deafway’s policies in respect of providing a culturally Deaf service including appropriate communication, accommodating varying staff needs.
General Duties:
- To plan, coordinate and deliver British Sign Language Level 1 and Level 2 classes.
- Register your qualifications with Signature and liaise with them in relation to all course requirements.
- To keep records of all training undertaken including numbers of people trained, assessment/exam pass rates and other relevant information.
- To work to all organizational policies and procedures, guidelines and standards required.
- To be aware of and ensure confidentiality of information.
- To assist in promoting and maintaining your own and others Health and Safety and security as defined in the Health and Safety Policy.
- To work effectively as part of the team ensuring effective working relationships.
- To complete mandatory training provided by Deafway.
